• Annual vehicle inspections — From 1 November 2026, light rental vehicles (CoF A) move from six-monthly to annual inspections. Sector-wide estimated savings of about $8.4 million a year.
• A digital, workable Road User Charges system — Pushing for settings that work for high-turnover fleets and integrate with existing systems.
• Fairer card payment costs — Engaged with the Commerce Commission on interchange fee reform.
• Fuel security planning — Direct engagement with MBIE so rental’s pre-booked travel is factored into contingency planning.
• EV policy — Ensuring operator reality is on the table when electrification proposals are shaped.
• Private parking — Legal advice underway, with practical templates to follow for members.
• Fuel drive-off liability — Updated legal advice and template correspondence so members aren’t wrongly held liable for previous hirers’ drive-offs.

Since 2021, sector advocacy has delivered an estimated $100 million in measurable savings.
